The only thing i can see glaive improving on is his song structure, a few cuts here feel like they hit their climaxes too early and could be given a bit more time to develop into fully fledged songs - i'm not sure if there are any bridges at all and it could use some, but this is just a nitpick and doesn't really detract from the record at all. all 7 tracks have been stuck in my head for hours at some point i can't sing enough praise about how catchy this whole thing is. it's the fast pace of the production that keeps you hooked and interested, there are so many intricate little touches here and although there's a different producer on every song here, the EP feels cohesive and personal, even.Īnd GOD, this guy can write a hook. It's also easy to love, with the erratic hyperpop tendencies of songs like astrid and pissed, and the almost midwest-y noodles of touché and aforementioned astrid (my personal favourite here). it's simple - there's nothing past the surface level, glaive wears his heart on his sleeve with very clear and obvious Ben Folds-as-a-zoomer-esque lyrics, and Juice WRLD levels of whiny vocal delivery. Stupid pop songs for stupid teenagers this music is very easy to hate, and i can understand why many people have dismissed it.
